STÉPHANE DEGOUT & ALAIN PLANES: Recital Various

Stéphane Degout, one of the greatest French baritones, gives us his version of Brahms' masterpiece.
Stéphane Degout has wanted to offer La Romance de la Belle Maguelone for a long time . For him, Johannes Brahms is a great lied master, just like Schubert and Schumann. This legend from the Middle Ages recounts the adventures of the valiant knight Pierre de Provence. He goes to Naples where he wins a tournament under the eyes of Maguelone, the King's daughter. The two fall head over heels in love and run away.

The legend has crossed centuries and borders to Germany where Ludwig Tieck, contemporary of Goethe and much appreciated poet in his time, made a translation that Brahms set to music.

However, this succession of Lieder is not enough to tell us the story of Maguelone and Pierre. Also, Stéphane Degout asked Marielou Jacquard to lend his voice to the characters of Maguelone and Suleima, and to the actor Roger Germser to weave the link necessary for understanding the story, drawing on Tieck's novel and especially the manuscript. dated 1453 in Languedoc. Alain Planès, friend of all adventures, accompanies them.
