Can the incorruptible patrician Lucretius even survive the outrages of Tarquin, the impulsive prince of a depraved Rome? After the success of  Peter Grimes , Britten chooses for this famous episode of Roman history a new and overwhelming form: a chamber opera, both intimate and radically violent, which rediscovers the tragic grandeur of a deplored destiny. by an ancient Choir.
