The Rape of Lucretia is two-act, tragic opera first performed at the Glyndebourne Opera House in England in 1947. The Libretto was written by Ronald Duncan in 1946 and was based on Le Viol de Lucrece by Andre Obey. 

Prologue 
The Male and Female Choruses explain the current state of Rome. Tarquinius Superbus is the ruler of Rome and he forcefully attained this position with bribing, manipulation and murder. He has recently engaged the Romans in a war with the Greeks.
