Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Woman in White premiered in London in 2004 and in New York in 2005. About ten years later, Lloyd Webber and his co-authors wrote a new version of the play. The 2017 performance of this new version at London's Charing Cross Theater received widespread critical acclaim from reviewers and audiences alike. The focus is on young Laura and her apparent doppelganger Anne (actually Laura's half-sister), dubbed "the woman in white". Although Anne writes her a warning letter, Laura marries her groom Sir Perceval Glyde, who is after her inherited fortune and - with the help of the dubious Count Fosco - hatches murder plans. After a few trials and tribulations, Laura's former drawing teacher Walter, who is in love with her, succeeds and her gentle sister Marian finally to save the young woman. "The Woman in White", loosely based on the English mystery novel by Wilkie Collins, is an exciting family drama about betrayal, intrigues and a great love. "Andrew Lloyd Webber's best composition in years," wrote the London Guardian. Its unmistakable melodies and the Victorian family story between tragedy, love and a little bit of comedy make this work a unique theatrical experience.
