Successfully created in the spring of 1728 and although bringing together a cast of several star singers of the time, including Faustina Bordoni, Francesca Cuzzoni and the castrato Senesino, Tolomeo bore the brunt of the tornado created by John Gay a few months earlier with his Beggar's Opera who will participate in the end of Handel's great adventure at the head of his Royal Academy of Music. Like many other works by the musician, Tolomeo was dormant for a long time before being rediscovered in 1938 in Göttingen and then in 1964 in Halle. We know the curiosity of Il Pomo d'Oro for unknown and forgotten repertoires and its rigor in its restitutions crowned here by the presence of countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński in the title role.

Créé avec succès au printemps 1728 et bien que réunissant une distribution de plusieurs chanteurs-vedettes du moment parmi lesquels Faustina Bordoni, Francesca Cuzzoni et le castrat Senesino, Tolomeo fera les frais de la tornade créée par John Gay quelques mois plus tôt avec son Beggar’s Opera qui participera à la fin de la belle aventure de Haendel à la tête de sa Royal Academy of Music. Comme de nombreux autres ouvrages du musicien, Tolomeo connut une longue période de sommeil avant d’être redécouvert en 1938 à Göttingen puis en 1964 à Halle. On sait la curiosité d’Il Pomo d’Oro pour les répertoires méconnus et oubliés et son exigence dans ses restitutions couronnée ici par la présence du contre-ténor Jakub Józef Orliński dans le rôle-titre.
