The story of the famous and fragile singer Tosca, the passionate painter Cavaradossi and the sadistic police chief Scarpio, with the captivating melodies of Giacomo Puccini, which have become immortal. When, in 1889, Giacomo Puccini saw for the first time Victorien Sardou's play La Tosca, starring the world-famous French actress Sarah Bernhardt, he immediately recognized the subject suitable for an operatic adaptation and asked his publisher Ricordi to obtain the copyright from the author. However, another long 10 years passed before the score was completed and Tosca could be performed in Rome on January 14, 1900. Tosca is a story of love, jealousy and passion, but also of torture and murder. Contemporary critics unanimously criticized this criminal political theme about the abuse of power, which takes place in Rome at the time of the Napoleonic Wars in the 1800s, for excessive naturalism, the pursuit of sensation and the music, which is painted in too harsh colors. But Tosca , after its premiere in Milan's La Scala, just two months after its Rome premiere, set off on its triumphant journey through the stages of the world's opera houses and never disappeared from them again. We are still attracted to the story of the famous and fragile singer Tosca, the passionate painter Cavaradossi and the sadistic police chief Scarpio, as well as the captivating melodies of Giacomo Puccini, which have become immortal. The director of the new production is Anton Korenči, the costumes were prepared by Boris Hanečka, and the stage design was created by artist Lucia Tallová. The supporting element of the scene is a monumental painting of a dramatic black sky from the "Clouds" series, which Lucia Tallová created especially for the opera Tosca and the State Theater in Košice.
