One of the most impressive public celebrations organized in Baroque Rome was given in honor of Louis XIV in 1687. To celebrate the King's recovery after the successful operation of his anal fistula, and establish his prestige as the undisputed protector of the Catholic Church, Cardinal d'Estrées, French Ambassador to the Holy See, organized a grandiose outdoor party in one of the most famous urban theaters in Rome: the Pincio hill, between the Trinity -Monts and the Spanish Steps.
On these famous stairs, Corelli's prestigious orchestra in large formation interpreted “Sinfonie per il Re Cristianissimo Lodovico il Grande” provided with trumpets and timpani, accompanied by Fireworks fired from the top of the hill. The virtuoso violinist Emmanuel Resche, passionate about Italian Baroque music, recreates this extraordinary musical feast, replacing it with the Cantata in honor of the King of France composed by Alessandro Melani.
