Basada en una leyenda medieval de origen celta, el libreto de Tristán e Isolda –escrito por el mismo Richard Wagner– articula una rica constelación de referencias culturales que incluyen el budismo, el teatro calderoniano y la filosofía de Feuerbach y Schopenhauer. Dispuestas en torno a los pares eros/thánatos, deber/instinto y conciencia/subconciencia, estas referencias proponen un marco dramático rompedor que anticipa en casi medio siglo el nacimiento de la psicología moderna. Con su partitura, Wagner no solo planteó un punto de no retorno en la evolución de la tonalidad y –con ella– de la música occidental, sino que tradujo en términos musicales –a través de sus amplios crescendi, sus irresistibles clímax y sus hondos anticlímax– los distintos momentos de nuestra pulsión vital más elemental: la sexualidad.

Incluida en todas las quinielas como una de las cinco óperas más influyentes e indiscutibles de todos los tiempos, disfrutaremos de este título en una versión semiescenificada dirigida musicalmente por Semyon Bychkov, uno de los directores musicales wagnerianos más cotizados de nuestros días.

Based on a medieval legend of Celtic origin, the libretto of Tristan und Isolde – written by Richard Wagner himself – expresses a rich constellation of cultural references which range from Buddhism to the theatre of Calderón and the philosophies of Feuerbach and Schopenhauer. Arranged around the pairs of eros/thanatos, obligation/instinct and conscience/ subconscious, these associations suggest a vanguard dramatic setting which looked nearly half a century ahead to the birth of modern psychology. With his score, Wagner not only marked a point of no return  in the evolution of tonality and, with that, of Western music, but he also expressed  in musical terms -  by means of ample crescendos, compelling climaxes  and profound anticlimaxes -   the distinct moments of our most basic impulse: sexuality.

Definitely considered one of the five most influential and indisputable operas of all times, we will enjoy a semi-staged version, conducted by Semyon Bychkov, who is a most sought after conductor of Wagner at present.
