What images of women do we see in the opera “ Turandot“? The self-sacrificing woman? The woman who only notices the man when he has "conquered" her at the risk of his life? The hero who has to win over a woman at the risk of her life? Do you have more power over someone if you know their name and identity? And why do those who hide their names always seem more powerful? At first, Princess Turandot is a rather cold ruler without much qualms. She sets the rules of a life-threatening questioning game: Only those who solve the three riddles can win her over as a wife. If you guess wrong, you will be beheaded. Many applicants face the deadly questions... Only the hero from abroad, the nameless Calaf, cracks both the riddles and the ice armor of the princess. He couldn't have done it alone. Liù, who dies (for him), solves the riddle for him.
