Weihnachts-Oratorium Bach,JS

Celebrate, eat, sing. Whether at home, in a concert, in church - during Advent, Johann Sebastian Bach's six-part oratorio about the birth of Jesus is omnipresent and part of a culinary experience of contemplation. Commerce and kitsch have hijacked the festival, which is supposedly aimed at contemplation and compassion. "Shout, rejoice", trumpets the first choir, the splendid beginning of Bach's most popular work. Shepherds and angels sing about the birth of Jesus and contemplative chants get in the mood for the festive season. Christmas is a cultural phenomenon of unbelievable proportions, which not only shapes the winter, the streets and the mood of many people. The director Jochen Biganzoli, who has been nominated many times for the German theater award DER FAUST, and his team dives deep behind the facade of the cookie scent for his staging of the Bach classic, into the traditions and customs of Christmas and follows their paths to the origin of the narrative. Jesus' birthplace and also the first church formations lead from Jerusalem via Galilee to Syria - today highly contested regions, who are greeted alternately with pity and contempt from the heart of Central Europe. In a participatory and cross-cultural project with singers from all over Kassel, Biganzoli traces the beloved phantasm of Christmas: thinking about traditions, both own and foreign, meets an exuberant celebration of cultural potential - singing along and feeling good meet the most important issues of our time.
