Copenhagen Phil teams up with the Copenhagen Boys' Choir and Bach specialist Konrad Junghänel for the Christmas Oratorio - and makes sure to set the right Christmas mood with a firework display of jubilant choirs, serious hymns and beautiful and poignant arias. A concert that, with few exceptions, has taken place every year since 1974.

To that extent, Bach has the ability to touch his audience, and for many it is not Christmas without the great church music of the Baroque. It is almost redundant to advertise Bach's Christmas Oratorio : Performed for almost 300 years with a text about peace, joy and faith in the existence of good. Jubilantly described and commented by four soloists and a boys' choir accompanied by Bach's flourishing orchestra.

The Christmas season is extra busy for Bach. In just nine days between Christmas Day and January 2, he will present five fully rehearsed cantatas and is planning a special Christmas oratorio spread over six holidays. The story of the birth of the baby Jesus, the shepherds and all the well-known scenes from the Christmas Gospel are at the center.

Bach tells the story with drama, fervour, and an eminent sense of utilizing the full spectrum of the cast. From intimate movements with just a few instruments and a single soloist, to the very large excerpt with full choir and orchestra. An unimaginable excess of a man who was constantly working against the clock and had no time to look back. He had to deliver a new cantata already for the coming Sunday.

Copenhagen Phil går sammen med Københavns Drengekor og Bach-specialisten Konrad Junghänel om Juleoratoriet – og sørger for at sætte den helt rette julestemning med et fyrværkeri af jublende kor, alvorlige salmer og flotte og gribende arier. En koncert, der med få undtagelser har fundet sted hvert år siden 1974.

Bach har i den grad evnen til at berøre sit publikum, og for mange er det ikke jul uden barokkens store kirkemusik. Det er næsten overflødigt at reklamere for Bachs Juleoratorium: Opført gennem snart 300 år med en tekst om fred, glæde og tro på, at det gode findes. Jublende beskrevet og kommenteret af fire solister og et drengekor akkompagneret af Bachs blomstrende orkester.

Juletiden er ekstra travl for Bach. På kun ni dage mellem juledag og 2. januar skal han stille med fem færdigprøvede kantater og planlægger et særligt juleoratorium spredt ud på seks helligdage. Fortællingen om jesusbarnets fødsel, hyrderne og alle de kendte scener fra juleevangeliet er i centrum.

Bach fortæller historien med drama, inderlighed og en eminent sans for at udnytte hele spektret af medvirkende. Fra intime satser med blot et par instrumenter og en enkelt solist, til det helt store udtræk med fuldt kor og orkester. Et ufatteligt overskud af en mand, der hele tiden arbejdede mod uret og ikke havde tid til at se sig tilbage. Han skulle jo levere en ny kantate allerede til den kommende søndag.
