To mark the centenary of Iannis Xenakis, take a step into his stunningly and unpredictably futuristic sonic world with the London Sinfonietta.

Here, the mathematical forces which govern the atoms and elements also provide the basis for musical form and understanding.

Xenakis’ joyously visceral aesthetic shocked even the musical avant-garde in the 1950s.

To this day his sound comes across as ultra-modern, even as its subject matter conjures up ancient gods and monsters.

The London Sinfonietta had a long, close relationship with Xenakis, dating back to 1976 when the ensemble commissioned and gave the premiere performance of Phlegra, which features at this event.

The performance features Xenakis’ ensemble works Palimpsest, Échange and Thalleïn.
