Both were born in 1685, created gripping vocal works of the highest artistry at the age of 22 and are now considered the outstanding composers of the Baroque: Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Handel. Her settings “Christ lay in Todesbanden”, “Gloria” and “Dixit Dominus”, all written in 1707, are impressive evidence of her musical mastery in highly dramatic, pictorial interpretation of the text, which she developed at a young age.
