“One of the best among the singers was the mezzo-soprano Yulia Matochkina, the commanding soothsayer Ulrika...” wrote The New York Times about the Chicago premiere of the play “Un ballo in maschera” conducted by Riccardo Muti. And The Chicago Sun-Times described the singer’s performance as follows: “The revelation of the evening was Yulia Matochkina, who was a real source of high tension, performing the part of Ulrika. Her powerful voice, rich with earthy, low notes, delightfully conveyed the menacing malevolence of this mysterious character."

The repertoire of the new star of the Mariinsky Theater includes more than 30 roles. She is the magnificent Carmen, Amneris, Olga, Marfa, Lel, Lyubasha, Carmen, Delilah, Joan of Arc, Velgunda, Venus, Ortrud, Brangena, Rossweiss, Kundry...

The singer won the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019, and has performed on the stages of La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Covent Garden and the Bolshoi Theater. She has participated in festivals in Edinburgh, Verbier, Baden-Baden, the BBC Proms in London, and the Arena di Verona (the title role in Carmen; Verdi's opera gala concert with the participation of Placido Domingo).

In the summer of 2019, Yulia Matochkina made her debut at the Salzburg Festival, where she performed as Federica in a concert performance of Verdi's opera Luisa Miller.

The singer will present a rich and varied program at the Zaryadye Hall. The concert will feature classical romances by composers of the 19th–20th centuries (Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Taneyev, Rubinstein, Grechaninov, Kalinnikov, Cherepnin, Gavrilin, Sviridov), and the gypsy song “The Old Husband” by Verstovsky, and the so-called ancient romance by Falbinov “How good are those eyes”, and vocal compositions of the Soviet composer-songwriter Mark Minkov, author of such hits as “Loving Do Not Renounce”, “These Summer Rains”, “You know, it will still happen”, “Our service is both dangerous and difficult” and many others .

Летом 2019 года Юлия Маточкина дебютировала на Зальцбургском фестивале, где выступила в партии Федерики в концертном исполнении оперы «Луиза Миллер» Верди.

В Зале Зарядье певица представит насыщенную и разнообразную программу. В концерте прозвучат и классические романсы композиторов XIX–XX века (Чайковского, Рахманинова, Танеева, Рубинштейна, Гречанинова, Калинникова, Черепнина, Гаврилина, Свиридова), и цыганская песня «Старый муж» Верстовского, и так называемый старинный романс Фальбинова «Как хороши те очи», и вокальные сочинения советского композитора-песенника Марка Минкова, автора таких шлягеров, как «Не отрекаются любя», «Эти летние дожди», «А знаешь, всё ещё будет», «Наша служба и опасна и трудна» и многих других.
