Mazzolijeva opera temelji se na biografiji Isabelle Eberhardt (1877.-1904.), intrigantne figure koja je tijekom svog kratkog života nemilosrdno izazivala  očekivanja svog vremena. Isabelle Eberhardt je bila istraživačica i spisateljica koja je napustila udoban aristokratski život radi nomadskog života u sjevernoj Africi. Bila je oslobođena individua koja je odbacila konvencionalni europski moral i kritički se odnosila prema svijetu strogo naglašenih rodnih uloga. Postavljanje opere o protagonistici koja je uzor borbe za žensku poziciju posebno je važno u vremenu u kojem se sve češće dovode u pitanje stečena ženska prava i uspostavljaju novi oblici intimne i društvene represije.

Mazzoli's opera is based on the biography of Isabella Eberhardt (1877-1904), an intriguing figure who relentlessly challenged the expectations of her time during her short life. Isabelle Eberhardt was a researcher and writer who left a comfortable aristocratic life for a nomadic life in North Africa. She was a liberated individual who rejected conventional European morality and was critical of the world of strictly emphasized gender roles. Setting up an opera about a protagonist who is a model of the fight for women's position is especially important in a time when acquired women's rights are increasingly being called into question and new forms of intimate and social repression are being established.
