Set in a fantastic location in the heart of Chelsea Cadogan Hall has become one of London’s leading venues. The Hall’s 950 seats, excellent acoustic and luxurious surroundings makes it the first choice for some of the UK’s top orchestras, including the Hall’s resident orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, as well as a favourite London destination for international touring orchestras, and it was the chosen venue for the world-famous BBC Proms Chamber Music Series. The Hall also offers a vibrant selection of contemporary, jazz, folk and world music events as well as talks, debates and conferences.

The National Cultural Centre is part of the Ministry of Culture and serves as an umbrella organization for all the music or dance companies, galleries, museums and the educational programs of the Cairo Opera House.
It was established in 1988 with the inauguration of the new Cairo Opera House. Its goal is to promote the arts of music and dance and to preserve and renew traditional Arab music. In order to be more than just a place where music and art are performed the National Cultural Centre wants to give space to learning and inspiration, to the exchange of ideas, the respect of a common cultural heritage, and a shared passion for the arts. It encourages interest for music and art in the younger generation by offering ballet, voice or instrumental classes for talented children or youths.
Performances of ballet, operatic or symphonic works are staged with Egyptian companies or in cooperation with foreign ensembles or soloists. Seminars and cultural conferences covering a wide range of artistic and intellectual issues are held regularly.
Opera House companies are frequently sent on tours to different Egyptian governorates to give the people in urban areas the chance to see national and international art performances.
In March 1985, Former President Mubarak laid the first corner stone of the new Cairo Opera House which was to be built with the support of JICA, the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Careful planning by the Ministry of Culture in Cairo and the JICA produced a design suggestive of traditional Islamic architecture and blending in harmoniously with the surrounding buildings.
In October 1988,Former President Mubarak and His Highness, Prince Tomohito of Mikasa, the younger brother of the Japanese Emperor, inaugurated the National Cultural Centre “Cairo Opera House” in a remarkable ceremony. It was the first time for Japan to stage a Kabuki show, a traditional popular drama with singing and dancing, in Africa or the Arab World.
Thus, the joint efforts of Japan and Egypt have given rise to a unique landmark of aesthetic and cultural interest.

The Cairo Opera House is a cultural landmark renowned for leadership, excellence and imagination. It has carved itself a significant place in the cultural landscape of Egypt and the Middle East. Its mission is to:

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Calgary Opera is situated on traditional land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, authentically known by the Blackfoot name “Mohkinstsis” which we now call the City of Calgary.  The City of Calgary is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.  We acknowledge the traditional territories of the Blackfoot and the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the .Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda) comprised of the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Blackfoot Confederacy comprised of the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai.

Objectives of the California Opera programs are to assist international young artists to become self-sufficient musically and dramatically; fluent in the fields of opera theater, music, drama and voice; versed in foreign language; and able to pursue a career at the international level. Workshop, master-class, private consultation and stage craft training culminate in fully staged opera, operettas, opera scenes, chamber operas, musical theater, art song, oratorio and recitals that give each scholar of opera the opportunity to learn traditional masterworks and experience premieres of new works under the tutelage and expertise of a world-class staff.

OUR MISSION

The Cambridge Chamber Ensemble’s mission: The Cambridge Chamber Ensemble’s mission: to present lesser-known operatic gems that deserve to be widely heard; to educate a wide range of people to the beauty and emotional richness of great operatic works at reasonable prices; to cast a wide net in engaging an ethnically diverse and gendered ensemble of singers, directors, and crew; and to engage both emerging artists and established performers to foster a communal musical experience for cast and audiences.

ABOUT CCE

As we grow, CCE plans to produce 1 – 2 operas a year focusing on lesser-known excellent pieces, seeking out great works by women and minority composers. We are developing an outreach program for senior residences and nursing homes where we will present shorter pieces for the enjoyment of people with limited ability and means to travel for entertainment. Our Director Martha saw this need when her mother was in a nursing home and lamented the lack of artistic stimulation in that confined environment.

During the pandemic year of 2020-2021 CCE produced a virtual opera, Richard Wagner's early masterpiece "Forbidden Love" (Das Liebesverbot), in English. "Forbidden Love" is available on YouTube for free viewing. In November 2021 we produced a live "Savitri", Gustav Holst's ravishing chamber opera based on a tale from the ancient Indian saga Mahabarata. "Savitri" is a tale of a woman whose wisdom, compassion, and strength saves her husband from death.

CCE’s third season presented  G. F. Handel’s Baroque opera “Silla”.  Our Executive Director Martha Birnbaum created a sparkling new English translation, making this important work directly accessible to the audience. The tyrannical emperor Silla made short work of his enemies, quashed civic liberties, and forced his attentions on the wives and lovers of his subordinates. Such behavior has been in the #MeToo spotlight in recent years and our work made captivating political theater of Silla’s outrageous behavior. 

 

CCE’s second season showcased “Cendrillon”, a delightful telling of the Cinderella story by Pauline Viardot-García. We were proud to highlight Viardot-García, little-known today but renowned in the 19th century as a famous mezzo soprano, composer, conductor, concert pianist, and salonista.

Cambridge Handel Opera Company (CHOC) mounts productions of Baroque operas that celebrate the fusion of music and the stage, with performances that trust the composer and are not just ‘historically informed’, but ‘historically inspired’. In our productions, vibrant synergy between music and stage respects the integrity of the work and conveys its coherence and passion. Baroque stagecraft is incorporated in a manner that speaks to audiences directly and excitingly.

Performances are led from the harpsichord by Artistic Director Julian Perkins. The company unites the best of youth and experience, with casts that combine upcoming stars and more established solo singers, and an orchestra in which leading professionals rehearse and perform alongside advanced students.
