Gabrieli Today

Gabrieli are a choir and period instrument orchestra founded and led by Artistic Director Paul McCreesh. We perform and record great choral, vocal and instrumental repertoire from the renaissance to the present day for the widest possible audience, cultivating an international reputation for excellence, innovation and ambition. Our mission is to educate the public, in every sense – to be standard bearers for the highest quality of performance, to explain, illustrate and illuminate the guiding principles behind our performance ideals and to offer first-class performance opportunities to young people through our bold and ambitious education programme, Gabrieli Roar.

Gabrieli’s interpretations strive to recreate the original performances of musical works as far as possible, in the belief that historical performance ideals and knowledge of the old world are essential for creating music anew. We seek to engage with and to explore the links between music from all periods. Through lively music-making, committed research and the production of ground-breaking recordings, Gabrieli’s mission is to challenge common and accepted perceptions of classical music, and to re-invigorate and innovate in order to sustain the relevance of these great pieces of art in the twenty-first century.

The heart of every Gabrieli project is pervaded with a strong sense of our core artistic values:
To strive constantly for the highest artistic quality;
To challenge and question the accepted norms and boundaries of musical performance;
To instil these values and beliefs in music in as broad a spectrum of people as possible, with a particular focus on young people as the future advocates of classical music.

The Garden State Philharmonic, under the direction of Music Director and Conductor Diane Wittry, is beginning its 66th Season. Over the years, the GSP has grown into a critically acclaimed professional orchestra that is the “Orchestra In Residence” at Ocean County College. In addition to the professional orchestra, the GSP sponsors a three-tiered Youth Orchestra program comprised of more than one hundred students between the ages of 8 and 21, and a Community Chorus. Through its concerts and musical outreach programs, the GSP has served over 20,000 people of all ages throughout the Jersey Shore and the State of New Jersey.

Comprised of professional musicians from New Jersey and New York, the Garden State Philharmonic presents a subscription series of professional orchestral concerts at the Grunin Center for the Arts, a concert series at Spring Lake Community Theatre, a yearly Messiah performance with the GSP Chorus, professional chamber music concerts and recitals, and an open rehearsal series in Maplewood, NJ. Community engagement activities include a “Meet the Music” concert series for young people ages 6-12, a free Fourth of July Concert, participation in Monmouth University’s Summer Music and Arts Festival, and 2 performances yearly of the Youth Orchestras and Youth Chorus. In addition, for the past 7 years, the GSP has partnered with the Atlantic City Ballet for Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Ballet at the Strand Theater in Lakewood, NJ.

The Garden State Philharmonic performs concerts in three counties, Ocean, Monmouth, and Essex, and is a cultural resource performing the best in symphonic music throughout the region and the state of New Jersey.

Gedik Art chose fire’s creative and unifying power as its beacon of light and guide. As such, based on and influenced by fire’s relationship with art in mythology, it will be developing work methods morphing into artistic ideas and comprehending the foundation, development and future of civilizations. Its main objective is to contribute to the carrying out of artistic productions and dreams, the enrichment of these creations with literary and philosophical dimensions, and the realisation of the ideal of creating a conscious and analytically-thinking generation.

Established under the Gedik Foundation for Education and Social Aid for contributing to society in the areas of culture and arts, Gedik Art will be implementing corporate social responsibility projects, as well as educational projects in collaboration with Istanbul Gedik University and industrial projects with the Gedik Group of Companies, thus constantly improving its unifying activities with multiple dimensions.

Sharing narrative music with its audience through the Gedik Philharmonic Orchestra and the Gedik Art Chamber Concerts, Gedik Art will also be designing fine arts projects in the future and will hence be pursuing the path of fire in the area of plastic arts as well.

Backed with our Founder Halil Kaya Gedik’s ideals and thoughts on the Turkish Republic and its modern society, our purpose is to support young artists trained in Turkey in the production and performance of their works, and consequently, to create a suitable environment for the archiving of high quality audio and visual material.

We aspire to becoming a structure that will conceive different art disciplines together, follow the evolution of modern art in ever-evolving times, and integrate the global art scene with future international projects, eventually becoming an influencing force in our domain.

The George London Foundation for Singers is a non-profit organization which has been giving awards to outstanding young professional opera singers during their early careers, often a financially difficult time. George London, remembering his own struggle, wished to make the road to success a little easier for future generations of singers. Initially created under the auspices of the National Opera Institute with the support of the National Endowment of the Arts, the awards program has been administered since 1990 by the Foundation in New York as a living legacy to George London's talent and generosity.

Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (Broadway) History
The Shuberts built the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (formerly the Plymouth) along with the contiguous Broadhurst in 1917. The playhouse was initially leased to producer Arthur M. Hopkins who achieved much success in booking it. It was renamed the Gerald Schoenfeld in 2005 to honor the late chairman of the Shubert Organization. The Schoenfeld was the architect Herbert Krapp's first independent commission. The interior design motifs, including the Adamsesque detailing, subtly reflect those of the somewhat more ornate Booth and Shubert.

Shows to have graced the stage of the Schoenfeld include Dark Victory (1934) starring Tallulah Bankhead, The Skin of Our Teeth (1942) starring Tallulah Bankhead, Fredric March, Florence Eldridge, and Montgomery Clift; The Odd Couple (1965) starring Walter Matthau and Art Carney; Plaza Suite (1968) starring George C. Scott, Maureen Stapleton and Bob Balaban; Equus (1974) starring Peter Firth, Frances Sternhagen and more; Godspell (1976, transfer from the Broadhurst Theatre) starring Lamar Alford, Laurie Faso, Lois Foraker, and so many more!
