The Haifa Opera was established following the decision of the outgoing mayor Mr. Yona Yahav. The Haifa Opera aims to bring the culture and message of opera to Haifa and the peripheral cities of Israel. We believe that a society that supports and spreads creativity and culture among all levels of the population is a valuable society. This is the twelfth season in which the Haifa Opera stages operas. In July 2005, the opera “Don Giovanni” by Mozart was staged. The three performances were full to the brim and the production received praise both from the audience of musical critics in Israel and from the audience of the opera’s listeners. The opera even received an honorable mention in the prestigious European magazine “Opera”. In July 2006, the opera “The Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart was staged with great success, which unfortunately was cut short due to the war. In July 2007 we performed the opera “Madame Butterfly” by Puccini in an innovative, minimalist and refreshing performance. In light of the success and demand and due to the fact that we have begun to build a tradition among the Haifa audience that waits for operas every summer, we have increased and expanded the program and now we stage between two and three operas per season. So far we have performed about twenty operas. The opera productions of the Haifa Opera are full productions that give a stage to Israeli artists, starting with conductors, singers, and ending with directors, set designers, etc. This fact creates an atmosphere of pioneering and creative joy among all those engaged in the craft, which of course are transmitted to the audience.

The uniqueness of the productions is in interesting and contemporary performances. The productions are mobile and modular allowing access to a wide variety of venues. Opera is a combination of arts. In order for the opera to open itself to new audiences, we must adapt ourselves to the modern era. And there is nothing better than an operatic production to bring young audiences together, in the hope that they will become a loyal and culture-loving audience for many days. In October 2018, we produced the opera “Yevgeni Onegin” and even inaugurated the pit of the Haifa Auditorium, which was established for the needs of performing operas. In December 2019, we produced the opera Don Giovanni conducted by Sergio Alapont from Spain and in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Israel. In July 2021, despite the corona virus, we staged the opera “Tosca” in a full international production with the participation of soloists from the leading opera houses in Europe. The halls were full to the brim. In December 2021, we performed the opera “La Boheme” conducted by Yishai Steckler and directed by Danny Erlich. In July 2022 we staged “Carmen” under the direction of Maestro Yoel Levy. During the 22-23 season, the Haifa Opera will present two new productions “The Magic Flute” and “La Traviata”. In addition, the “Pearls of Opera” series, on Friday mornings – a series of chamber operas, which we launched in the 21-22 season, will continue in the upcoming season with 3 new shows.

In all opera productions, from the Haifa Opera House next to the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, guest soloists from Israel and abroad participate. The “Bat Shir” house choir also participates. In conclusion, the city of Haifa in particular and the north in general are entitled, according to our worldview, to a quality and vibrant culture.

Founded in Boston in 1815, the Handel and Haydn Society (H+H) is America’s oldest continuously performing arts organization and will celebrate its Bicentennial in 2015. Its Period Instrument Orchestra and Chorus are internationally recognized in the field of Historically Informed Performance, using the instruments and techniques of the composer’s time. Under Artistic Director Harry Christophers’ leadership, H+H’s mission is to perform Baroque and Classical music at the highest levels of artistic excellence and to share that music with as large and diverse an audience as possible.
H+H’s esteemed tradition of innovation and excellence began in the 19th century with the US premieres of Handel’s Messiah (1818), Haydn’s The Creation (1819), Verdi’s Requiem (1878), and Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (1879). In 1969, Artistic Director Thomas Dunn transformed the chorus into a small, expert ensemble, and in 1986, Christopher Hogwood became Artistic Director and added period instrument performances. Music Director Grant Llewellyn (2001–2006) and Artistic Advisor Sir Roger Norrington (2006–2008) continued this tradition, as Harry Christophers, appointed in 2009, does today.
H+H is widely known through its concert series, tours, WGBH/99.5 Classical, NPR, and American Public Media broadcasts, and recordings. Its nine-program series, held at Symphony and Jordan Halls in Boston and Sanders Theatre in Cambridge, reaches 2,700 subscribers and 15,500 single ticket buyers from throughout New England. The orchestra comprises a core group of period instrument specialists and the chorus is a fully-professional ensemble. H+H consistently presents world renowned guest artists.
H+H made its European debut in 1996 at the Edinburgh International Festival with a fully-staged production of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice with the Mark Morris Dance Group. Recent tours have taken H+H to the Haydn Festival in Esterházy, Austria, in 2006, and to the BBC Proms Festival, London, which the London Telegraph named one of the top musical events of 2007.
Over the past 20 years, H+H has presented interdisciplinary programs featuring dance, opera, jazz, and theater. In 2003, it performed the first fully-staged performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers in collaboration with Chinese stage director Chen Shi-Zheng. H+H and Shi-Zheng premiered two more fully-staged productions, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (2005) and Monteverdi’s Orfeo (2006). Other collaborators include Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, David McCullough, and Claire Bloom.
H+H won a Grammy award for its recording of Tavener’s Lamentations and Praises, co-commissioned with Chanticleer. In fall 2005, its recordings All is Bright and Peace were in the Top Ten on the Billboard classical music chart together. Its first recording with Harry Christophers, Mozart Mass in C Minor, was issued in September 2010 on the CORO label, followed by Mozart Requiem in September 2011.
As a major performing organization, educator, resource center, and community partner, H+H strives to entertain and inspire audiences, provide unique educational experiences for students at all levels, and reach all citizens in the community through broad outreach efforts. Established in 1985, H+H’s award-winning Karen S. and George D. Levy Educational Outreach Program reaches 10,000 students each year throughout Greater Boston, many in underserved communities. H+H also maintains partnerships with area cultural and higher education institutions, including Boston Public Library; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; New England Conservatory; and Harvard University.

Under Artistic Director, Gregory Hopkins, internationally acclaimed tenor, conductor, organist and pianist, Harlem Opera Theater performances include all types of musical offerings: opera, oratory concerts, recitals, Negro Spirituals and varied forms of American music, in keeping with our mission “to provide performance opportunities for professional and developing gifted artists within Harlem and communities where opera is seldom performed; and to cultivate and expand audience appreciation for opera and classical music through creative programming.” Particular focus is given to the works of African-American composers and to projects that link different aspects of the performing arts.

Although the institution behind it was founded in 2001, the Harlem Opera Theater was established in the neighborhood of Harlem, NYC, in 2002. As such, Dr. Gregory Hopkins, the Artistic Director and an internationally acclaimed conductor, tenor, pianist, and organist, took leadership way back in the founding days to incorporate the organization along with his colleagues. Since then, we have organized and presented numerous concerts with approximately 150 singers involved and a combined audience of over 15,000 patrons of the musical arts. Today, we continue our initiatives in guiding and providing new artists with opportunities to shine. We hope to empower more musicians, including possibly you, for more decades to come. We do everything in our power to help you reach your full potential.

Its history in Hawaiʻi, which dates back to the 1850s, includes stories of Queen Emma singing in the chorus of Verdi’s Il Trovatore while her husband, King Kamehameha IV served as the stage manager! Today, Hawaiʻi Opera Theatre is known for its vibrant and creative season productions, engaging Studio 101 events, and award-winning education programs.
Our mission is to present a broad spectrum of world-class opera and music-theatre, as well as a wide range of educational and artistic opportunities throughout the islands of Hawaiʻi.

Since 1961, Hawai’i Opera Theatre (HOT), founded as a division of the Honolulu Symphony Society and incorporated in 1980, has served to enhance the quality of life in Hawaiʻi by presenting opera performances and education programs of the highest standards.  With its upcoming commemoration of 60 years as the only professional opera company in Hawaiʻi, HOT is one of the largest performing arts organizations in the state with performances and education presentations on all of the major islands.  In May 2019, General Director Andrew Morgan became the company’s fifth executive leader, bringing over 25 years of experience as a non-profit leader, singer, and stage director.

Haymarket Opera Company contributes to the diverse and culturally vibrant artistic community of Chicago and the Midwest through the presentation of historically informed opera and oratorio from the 17th and 18th centuries, including many Chicago and U.S. premieres.

Since its founding in 2010, Haymarket has offered more than 30 productions using period instruments and historically informed staging conventions, shining a spotlight on many lesser known but quality pieces by a wide diversity of composers, sung and played by a combination of international stars and top regional talent. The company has received glowing reviews including in the Chicago Tribune, Italy’s L’Opera, Opera News, and Early Music America. The New York Times praised Haymarket’s “finely played, carefully sung, lovingly detailed period performance.”

Haymarket attracted national attention by offering a season of filmed Handel operas that reached more than 800,000 households during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since 2020, Haymarket has partnered with WFMT to broadcast on the historic Saturday Matinee Broadcast series, alongside the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, and Paris Opera, reaching over one million listeners worldwide through free broadcasts.

Following an acclaimed 2022 stage production of biracial composer Joseph Bologne’s only extant opera, L’Amant anonyme, Haymarket released the world-premiere recording of the opera in collaboration with the Grammy Award-winning label Cedille Records. The recording is the inaugural project supported by the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Fund for Vocal Recordings.

In 2020, Haymarket was included in the “Ten Best of the Decade” by the Chicago Sun Times and in 2021 was praised as offering “Chicago’s finest operatic event” by the Chicago Classical Review. In 2021 and 2022, Haymarket was listed alongside the Chicago Symphony and Lyric Opera in the Chicago Tribune’s “Top 10 Classical and Opera performances.” In 2022 Musical America lauded Haymarket as “among the most impressive period-performance ensembles around today.”

Haymarket takes its name from both Chicago’s Haymarket Affair of 1886 which gave focus to the world-wide labor movement, and from the King’s Theatre in the Haymarket District of London where Handel produced his Italian operas.
