Kreenholm Textile Manufacturing Enterprise, founded 165 years ago, had a choir that was once conducted by the grandfather of Georg Ots, one of the most loved singers in Estonia. Now we can enjoy contemporary opera and ballet from Estonia and its neighboring countries in this deliciously historical environment. Narva Opera Festival is the meeting place of east and west, history and the present day, aristocrats and bohemians. The freshest breeze of world musical theatre is blowing around the abandoned industrial complex. In Kreenholm, you can experience czarist airs, Soviet festivity, and present-day cosmopolitanism. Here avant-garde boldness is combined with the best traditions.

Narva Opera Festival events are also taking place in Narva Castle and the recently opened Vaba Lava, where performances in a chamber-like manner can be experienced. Narva Opera Festival includes world premieres of productions, family events, dance theatre, and performances that synthesize different arts.

The Festival initiator, chief organisor and artistic director is Julia Savitskaja, singer and recipient of the East Virumaa Cultural Endowment Pearl award for 2018. Julia has been organising the Narva Opera Festival since 2015 and in 2022 she was awarded the title of professional culture creator by the city of Narva in the field of music.

New Music Dublin is Ireland’s foremost contemporary music festival, taking place in Spring each year within the National Concert Hall and other venues throughout Dublin. It is a true partnership project, as whilst the festival is programmed and managed by New Music Dublin CLG, it only exists through very significant support from partner organisations including the Arts Council, the National Concert Hall, RTÉ, Culture Ireland, the Contemporary Music Centre, RIAM, and Irish performing groups including Crash Ensemble, Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble and Chamber Choir Ireland.

These organisations, and the people who work within them, give extremely generously of their time and resources to create, collaboratively, an annual festival which provides an accessible, high-profile platform for the broadest possible spectrum of Irish new music-making within a national and international context.

The central objectives of New Music Dublin are:

To give a platform to performers and music-makers from across the spectrum of Irish new music to show their work to the widest audience, both live and broadcast, within Ireland and internationally;

To increase and develop audiences for new music-making across Ireland;

To increase and develop accessible participation in new music-making in Ireland;

To create opportunities for composers, performers and new music-makers from Ireland to develop their national and international links;

To create and develop opportunities for collaboration and cooperation between Irish and international ensembles, new music organisations, composers and performers, to promote best practice, and collaborate towards shared artistic and organisational goals;

To create opportunities for younger and emerging composers and new music performers from Ireland to develop their professional skills, to grow their national and international connections, and to help them realise their professional and artistic ambitions.

The global pandemic has brought on a new normal, and technology’s dominance in our lives has made human relations all the more delicate: so often we feel the contradiction of being close to each other yet separated by long distance. COVID-19’s impact has been felt far and wide as people of all nations share the same predicament, making communication and mutual understanding all the more important.

Since its founding, the New Vision Arts Festival has been steadfast in its mission to promote crossover works. We continue our efforts this year with commissions by outstanding local and overseas artists, among them two new works celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR Government. The first piece, chasing waterfalls, is lauded as the first AI opera focusing on the symbiosis of men and machines, investigating manifold manifestations of humanity in our digital age. Produced by the German Arts Tech collective “phase 7 performing.arts” and featuring music by Hong Kong’s rising musical star Angus Lee, chasing waterfalls received its world premiere in Germany with Lee as conductor. The New Vision edition proactively creates opportunities for local artists, as members of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble take part in this performance. The second commemorative programme is Jungle Book reimagined by England’s distinguished Akram Khan Company. Our Festival offered an opportunity for a partnership between Akram Khan and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA)’s School of Dance. Eight outstanding students travelled to England to audition and rehearse with the master and his company; Jan Mikaela Villanueva was chosen to participate in the world premiere in England, she also received a two-year contract as a full-time company member. Villanueva will perform the principal role of Mowgli, which is an inspiration to us all. We are proud that our Festival has fulfilled its role after many years of concerted efforts in connecting local artists with world-class performing arts troupes, helping our own talents land on the international stage in their pursuit of greater artistic maturity.

Because of the pandemic, the public’s aesthetic needs have also changed. The New Vision Arts Festival is unwavering in promoting Arts Tech, continuing this effort along two parallel planes – commissioning local artists to produce both onsite and online shows, thus expanding creativity in multiple dimensions. Such examples include: HACK, where GayBird and Ata Wong focus on the intricate relation between machines and humans; Olivia Yan’s interactive music theatre work Zoetrope, involving audience participation; and Choi Sai-ho’s Live・Earth・Space, using electronic music and video to explore our universe.

In 2016, the New Vision Arts Festival presented the first instalment of the tripartite A Concise History of Future by the intrepid and singular theatre artist Yan Pat-to. This year, the second instalment, Posthuman Condition, explores the new era of technological warfare in which AI progresses in leaps and bounds. Yan uses his unique and distinctive perspective in foretelling the future of mankind. Zuni Icosahedron presents its Mindfulness Arts Tech Theatre Hua-yen Buddhaverse and Hua-yen Concert, bringing the sūtra’s journey to yet another realm. Finally, MaD (Make a Difference)'s A Date with Dogs reflects on interspecies coexistence with multi-arts — art is for all!

The goal of NODO/New Opera Days Ostrava festival is to contribute to the discussion about the evolution of opera and to demonstrate its possibilities in the 21st century. Since 2012, the biennial festival has been alternating with Ostrava Days, which largely focuses on concert music. NODO is an Ostrava Center for New Music production co-organized by The National Moravian-Silesian Theatre and constitutes the only festival of its kind in the Czech Republic.

NODO features Czech or world premieres and presents both concert versions and full stage renditions at venues ranging from traditional theaters to industrial spaces. It also stimulates the production of new works for the festival: Martin Smolka, Petr Kotík, Petr Cígler, František Chaloupka or Idin Samimi Mofakham have all penned operas for NODO. The festival has provided Czech theater-goers with the opportunity to experience operas by John Cage, Salvatore Sciarrino, Bernhard Lang, Richard Ayres, Rudolf Komorous or Iannis Xenakis for the first time; NODO also commissions new works by young composers and brings together novel production teams that defy opera-world traditions.
