The idea about the festival that would consolidate Varaždin’s rich tradition and history in culture, music and education – particularly in music, was born in 1968 on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the Music School Varaždin. A group of Croatian musicians and cultural public workers decided this tradition could be best illustrated by the festival Varaždin Baroque Evenings that would consolidate and present the richest and the most extensively preserved heritage: musical, architectural, horticultural, visual, literary and educational. In the year 1971, the first three-day-long festival was held, at that time one of the few in Europe, specialized in this type of music in Europe. At that time musicologists and musicians were extensively discussing the ways of performing this music – whether to use the contemporary instruments and existing ensembles or using instruments and sorts of ensembles from the past times. Europe had renovated architecture and instruments; among the corpus of ensembles and orchestras there were artists profiled in Baroque music. The leading countries in the mentioned aspect were England, Germany and France.

Baroque music has been persistent in Croatian baroque capital and former capital city for almost fifty years. Varaždin Baroque Evenings (VBE) is held in autumn, mainly in churches and palaces, but not only in Varaždin – the festival had overgrown the city boundaries since 1971 when the first three-day-long festival was held. Now it is a two-week festival with thirty concerts, performed by few hundreds of musicians in front of approximately ten thousand people from all over the world. It is renowned as a European and world-famous early music festival. Concerts are now held mostly in North-western Croatia, but VBE had been a guest in numerous European countries. European Festivals Association (EFFE) commented VBE saying: “The high cultural and national importance of the festival is unquestionable” and then gave the festival the prestigious Label 2019-2020.

Some of the most memorable performances from the past festival years are: the concert of Jordi Savall, a doyen of baroque music, the festival opening concert of The Vienna Boys’ Choir (in 2012), Le Concert Spirituel concert conducted by Herce Niquet and numerous concerts held by Le Tendre Amour, a Spanish ensemble, which prove that Baroque can be funny and grandiose at the same time.

It is important to mention that VBE is mainly about authenticity – the authenticity of ambient because Varaždin is one of the best-maintained baroque cities and the program is held in palaces, churches and castles from that period; authenticity of performance because concerts are performed on baroque instruments; and authenticity of the programme consisting of baroque compositions

The Varese Estense Festival Menotti, an event promoted by Giorni Dispari Teatro, Associazione Ma.Ni. and Orchestra Canova, also named after the great Varese musician, librettist and composer Gian Carlo Menotti, goes on until 15 July.

The Festival includes a series of events ranging from opera to music and theatre, which will be scheduled according to a "poetic" of promotion and enhancement of the territory and cultural growth of the population.

The “Varna Summer” International Music Festival is the first music festival in Bulgaria, founded in 1926 in the city of Varna.

Almost 100 years ago, just after the official opening of the Varna’s Sea Baths in 1926 – the first SPA center in the sea town, emblematic personalities of Varna society at that time, among them the composers Pancho Vladigerov and Dobri Hristov, set the beginning of the first in the country music celebrations, which later turned into the biggest International Music Festival in Bulgaria.

Having received national and international recognition, today the Festival is a representative forum of Bulgarian and world music and music performing art.

The slogan of the first organizers “to unite the best music celebrities of the country” finds its continuation and advance in the promotion of Bulgarian music culture in the policy of Festival’s programming. A number of Bulgarian works have been performed for the first time within the “Varna Summer”.

In its more than 90-year long history the Festival has impressed with the presence of soloists, conductors, symphony and chamber orchestras, choirs, opera ensembles, ballet companies from around the world.

But the ambition of every next festival program is to present at the stage of the “Varna Summer” IMF both the renowned names of the world music culture and young artists – future stars.

In 1987 the Festival became a member of the European Festival Association based in Geneva. Nowadays, EFA is one of the major non-governmental organizations working at European level in Brussels on the cultural policies of the old continent, which three times consecutively awarded the EFFE Label to “Varna Summer” IMF within the period 2015-2020.

In June 2019 The Festival was honored with the EFFE label, an Europe’s quality stamp, for its program and organization among 715 festivals across Europe. The IMF, along with 23 of the best festivals in the old continent, received this prize at a special ceremony at the Bozar – Center for Fine Arts in Brussels. The exceptional success of the festival was also confirmed by receiving the AUDIENCE AWARD, which was announced later at the same ceremony and bestowed by the EU Commissioner Tibor Navracsics.

Vienna Opera Festival (Wiener Festspiele) is the Official Opera Festival in the Heart of Vienna. It is an opera festival that offers opera productions and concerts with international artists every July and August. The venues are the Mozarthaus Vienna, MuTh (concert hall of the Vienna Boys’ Choir) and Musikverein Vienna. The festival has its own orchestra, the Wiener Festspiele Orchester.

The VILNIUS FESTIVAL is one of the most prestigious, solid and versatile classical music events in Lithuania and a major summer destination for music-lovers during the hottest tourist season. With primary interest in presenting classical music, performed by the established soloists, ensembles and symphony orchestras from all over the world, the VILNIUS FESTIVAL also continues to promote contemporary Lithuanian music by commissioning new large-scale works and offers a platform for jazz and musical theatre.

Since the first VILNIUS FESTIVAL in 1997 its primary idea has been to promote the historical and modern assets of world culture in society. Cooperation between Lithuanian and foreign musicians has fostered the creation of a multicultural music scene in Lithuania, as well as mutual tolerance and trust, and the discovery and support of new artistic forces. The organizers of  VILNIUS FESTIVAL seek to reflect the cultural experiences of different nations and eras in the festival program.

The festival fulfills the main points of its program by:

Bonds between the festival and Lithuania’s cultural image

The cooperation of  VILNIUS FESTIVAL organizers and performers with world-renowned musicians (Yehudi Menuhin, Matislav Rostropovich, Justus Frantz, Riccardo Muti, Krzysztof Penderecki, David Geringas, Gidon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet) has accelerated the acceptance of not only Lithuania’s musical culture but also its political activities in the international realm. The support of these musicians for Lithuania’s intention to integrate to the EU was raised not only by artistic acts but also by official documents.

The active participation of  VILNIUS FESTIVAL in programs of Lithuanian cultural tourism and its close cooperation with diplomatic missions of foreign countries has generated high interest among foreign guests and tourists in both this event and Lithuanian cultural happenings in general.
