A concert tour took Maurice Ravel to America in 1928, where a new musical world opened up to him. His Piano Concerto in G major reveals the extent to which jazz music influenced him. We again welcome Denis Kozhukhin as a soloist, who already
delighted the Innsbruck concert audience last season. Under the direction of chief conductor Kerem Hasan, the successful Russian pianist will reveal the beauty of Ravel's "cheerful and brilliant" sounding, technically highly demanding work.

While in Ravel's Piano Concerto only the second movement conjures up the atmosphere of a Chopin nocturne, the Italian Luigi Dallapiccola composed a small piece of night music with Piccola musica notturna . Described as pantomime dance after a poem by Antonio Machado, the latter entitled Noche de verano ( Summer Night ) describes the nocturnal atmosphere of a deserted village square with its ghostly shadows cast on it by the moonlight. In Dallapiccola's work, the spirits of the night seem to join in with the fragile sounds of loneliness in harsh tones.

Richard Strauss' opera Die Frau ohne Schatten , which premiered in Vienna in October 1919 , is also about spirits (heralds) and shadows . The symphonic fantasy lets the colors of the orchestra light up in all shades. With the suite from Leoš Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen , the TSOI immerses itself in the world of fairytale opera and makes the captivatingly enchanting music of the Czech composer tangible in the concert hall.

Eine Konzerttournee führte Maurice Ravel 1928 nach Amerika, wo sich ihm eine neue musikalische Welt auftat. Wie sehr ihn die Jazzmusik beeinflusste, verrät sein Klavierkonzert G-Dur. Als Solist begrüßen wir erneut Denis Kozhukhin, der das Innsbrucker Konzertpublikum bereits in der vergangenen
Saison begeisterte. Unter der Leitung von Chefdirigent Kerem Hasan wird der erfolgreiche russische Pianist die Schönheit von Ravels „heiter und brillant“ klingendem, technisch höchst anspruchsvollem Werk offenbaren.

Während in Ravels Klavierkonzert lediglich der zweite Satz die Atmosphäre einer Chopinschen Nocturne heraufbeschwört, komponierte der Italiener Luigi Dallapiccola mit Piccola musica notturna eigens eine kleine Nachtmusik. Als Pantomimischer Tanz nach einem Gedicht von Antonio Machado bezeichnet, beschreibt Letzteres mit dem Titel Noche de verano (Sommernacht) die nächtliche Atmosphäre eines verlassenen Dorfplatzes mit seinen gespenstischen Schatten, die das Mondlicht auf ihn wirft. Zu fragilen Klängen der Einsamkeit scheinen sich in Dallapiccolas Werk in greller Tongebung hier und da die Geister der Nacht zu gesellen.

Um Geister(boten) und Schatten geht es auch in Richard Strauss‘ Oper Die Frau ohne Schatten, die im Oktober 1919 in Wien uraufgeführt wurde. Die Symphonische Fantasie lässt die Orchesterfarben in allen Schattierungen aufleuchten. Mit der Suite aus Leoš Janáčeks Das schlaue Füchslein taucht das TSOI in die Welt der märchenhaften Oper ein und macht die hinreißend-bezaubernde Musik des tschechischen Komponisten auch im Konzertsaal erlebbar.
