Kaum ein Komponist steht dem Capell-Compositeur Georg Friedrich Haas näher als Franz Schubert, dessen Musik sich immer wieder in neue Ausdrucksbereiche vorantastete. Nur folgerichtig ist es also, wenn Susanna Mälkki in ihrem Debüt bei der Staatskapelle der Uraufführung von Haas’ neuem Orchesterwerk, das eigens zum Kapelljubiläum entsteht, Schuberts längste und ambitionierteste Symphonie gegenüberstellt. »Leben in allen Fasern, Colorit bis in die feinste Abstufung, Bedeutung überall«, urteilte ein begeisterter Robert Schumann, als sie – elf Jahre nach Schuberts Tod – in Leipzig erstmalig im Konzert erklang.

Hardly any composer is closer to the Capell composer Georg Friedrich Haas than Franz Schubert, whose music repeatedly explored new areas of expression. It is therefore only logical that, in her debut with the Staatskapelle, Susanna Mälkki contrasts Schubert's longest and most ambitious symphony with the premiere of Haas' new orchestral work, which was written especially for the Kapell's anniversary. "Life in all its fibres, color down to the finest gradation, meaning everywhere," said an enthusiastic Robert Schumann when it was first heard in a concert in Leipzig - eleven years after Schubert's death.
