Seize this rare opportunity to experience the entire Christmas Oratorio, taking place over two evenings, as a seasonal treat.

Suzuki, founder of the Bach Collegium Japan, and the OAE are joined by a cast of rising stars in the UK’s historical performance scene.

The six cantatas that make up the Christmas Oratorio were originally composed to be performed in Leipzig’s two main churches – St Thomas and St Nicholas – over six feast days during the Christmas period.

Part 4 would have been part of the celebrations for New Year’s Day, while Part 5 is gorgeously scored with prominent solo parts for oboe d’amore.

In closing, propelled by joyful trumpets and timpani, Part 6 moves the action to the journey and arrival of the Magi in Bethlehem at the festival of Epiphany.
