The San Salvador sextet revives the traditional Occitan repertoire by offering original compositions to texts of popular songs. Vocal polyphony and percussion rush into it in a dizzying trance.

Started in the circuit of traditional music, the path of San Salvador has – over the years – met an increasingly large audience, between very noticed passages in major festivals and the release of the album La Grande Folie .in 2021. Difficult to resist this powerful gust, music both new and rooted in the Occitan folk tradition, where voice and percussion are all rhythmic lurches, melodious surges and dissonant turns. Original songs with a strong character, composed on texts from the popular Occitan repertoire. San Salvador has two brother-sister duos but the six performers have known each other since their childhood in Saint-Salvadour in Corrèze. This is where their passion for the popular Occitan repertoire was born, in the traditional music workshops led by ethnomusicologist Olivier Durif, who collected the rural repertoire from the west of the Massif Central in the 1970s. With San Salvador , his children, Gabriel and Eva, and their comrades are now taking up the torch in their own way,

Le sextet San Salvador revivifie le répertoire traditionnel occitan en offrant des compositions originales à des textes de chansons populaires. Polyphonies vocales et percussions s’y engouffrent en une transe étourdissante.

Entamé dans le circuit des musiques traditionnelles, le chemin de San Salvador a – au fil des ans – croisé un public de plus en plus large, entre des passages très remarqués dans de grands festivals et la sortie de l’album La Grande Folie en 2021. Difficile de résister à cette puissante bourrasque, une musique à la fois neuve et enracinée dans la tradition folklorique occitane, où voix et percussions sont de toutes les embardées rythmiques, élans mélodieux et virages dissonants. Des chansons originales au caractère bien trempé, composées sur des textes issus du répertoire populaire occitan. San Salvador compte deux duos frère-sœur mais les six interprètes se connaissent depuis leur enfance à Saint-Salvadour en Corrèze. C’est là qu’est née leur passion pour le répertoire populaire occitan, dans les ateliers de musique traditionnelle animés par l’ethnomusicologue Olivier Durif, qui collectait le répertoire rural de l’ouest du Massif central dans les années 70. Avec San Salvador, ses enfants, Gabriel et Eva, et leurs camarades reprennent aujourd’hui le flambeau à leur manière, vivifiante.
