Julius and Juliane love the forest that borders their small town. Together with their friends, they use every free minute to play under the big old trees, in the hazelnut thicket and by the pond — where they can let their imaginations run wild. But now her father, the busy mayor, wants to cut down the forest to make the small town a big one. "The forest has to go!" he says, and the excavators are ready. Julius and Juliane are horrified and all the animals in the forest join in their lamentation. High time to do something about this project! Then the small and witty forest witch Frau Hullewulle enters the scene. Is there another way to change the mayor's mind and protect the forest?

The Staatstheater Darmstadt is performing Elisabeth Naske's children's opera based on the popular children's book by Mira Lobe for the first time in Germany. A humorous and touching evening about growing up and the courage to protest in times of climate change.
