*Winner of the 2nd edition of the competition dedicated to Josef Svoboda "Design of staging of musical theater scenes and costumes" reserved for members and/or recent graduates of the two-year specialization in scenography of the academies of fine arts of Macerata, Bologna and Venice). New commission, world premiere in co-production with Teatro dell'Opera Giocosa in Savona Jesi, 27 November 2022 The opera season of the Pergolesi Theater in Jesi boasts a world premiere. Let's talk about "Delitto all'Isole delle Capre" a new compositional work by Marco Taralli , on a libretto by Emilio Jona, taken from the play by Ugo Betti. Three women are in the centerof the story: a mother of a somewhat faded beauty, with a hard character, full of bitterness, her young daughter who experiences all the turmoil of youth and her forty-year-old sister-in-law, a pleasant and somewhat superficial woman. Into this female "triangle" breaks in a man, with the emblematic name, Angelo, young, self-confident, cunning and overbearing, chauvinist and Dionysian. He says he comes from afar, he says he was the friend of the man who abandoned those women and who, before dying, in the throes of regret, made him the bearer of a message to be delivered to those women. The coming of him swends the lives of the three women up to a tragic epilogue. Taralli's score is fascinating and encompasses various musical worlds. We have clear echoes of late 19th century melodrama, with rexhale more symphonic and to the world of soundtracks. This aspect emerges from the use of musical themes that effectively connect and identify the characters. Of great importance is the attention to vocal writing, always sensitive and expressively varied, certainly demanding but of great impact. The instrumental part is entrusted to the Time Machine Ensemble (made up of three strings, four wind instruments, percussion and piano) directed with a sure hand by Marco Attura who manages to sustain the tension of the work very well. Especially in the winds one can admire elegant phrasing and the strings which, with the percussions and the piano, become sound carpets. Directed by Matteo Mazzoni it is functional and balanced and makes the most of the singers' acting skills. Josephin Capozzi 's scenes set the story outside an old abandoned trailer with a broken window which is the home of the protagonists. Around a few elements, which highlight the sense of isolation of the characters: the well with a ladder that is lowered directly into the orchestra pit. Marco Scattolini 's warm lights create a delicate atmosphere and the costumes always designed by Capozzi reflect well the characters' characters. Andrea Silvestrelli shone in the part of Angelo .His authentic bass voice was fully brought out by the score. Added to this is a full actor's adherence to the tormented character that he plays in a very engaging way. Sofia Janelidze (Agata) highlighted a beautiful mezzo-soprano voice, solid throughout the texture. She is very effective in highlighting the ambiguity of the character between humiliations suffered, uncontrollable love and desire for revenge. Equally valid was the soprano Federica Vinci (Pia) who highlighted a beautiful united vocal, confident and convincing interpretation . The soprano Yuliya Tkachenko is also valuable in the painful part of Silvia. The tenor Alessandro Fiocchetti completed the castas Edward . Great public success at the end of the performance, demonstrating that even a completely new work can touch the heartstrings and fascinate at first hearing. Taralli's work is back on stage Wednesday 30 November 2022 at 21.15 at the Benedetto XIII Auditorium in Camerino, the birthplace of Ugo Betti, on the 130th anniversary of the birth of the writer from the Marches The next and last title on the bill in Jesi will be "Tosca ” by Giacomo Puccini, scheduled for 16 and 18 December.
