In addition to successful musicals such as "Jekyll & Hyde" and "Bonnie & Clyde", the American composer Frank Wildhorn adapted another popular literary template. Alexandre Dumas "The Count of Monte Cristo" is considered the adventure novel par excellence and combines a realistic historical picture of post-Napoleonic France with the horrific ordeal of its protagonist. Young Edmond Dantes, just promoted to captain, becomes the victim of a perfidious plot during his engagement party to the beautiful Mercedes. Innocently imprisoned, 14 years of imprisonment drive him to the brink of insanity. Abbe Faria, who is also in prison, tells him the location of a treasure on the small Mediterranean island of Monte Cristo. Only Dantes manages to escape, he finds the loot and uses this wealth to gain entry into the highest Parisian circles as Count of Monte Cristo. His former adversaries have risen to the top thanks to their ruthlessness. The deeper her fall when Dantes takes revenge.

After the world premiere in St. Gallen in 2009, Cusch Jung, chief director of the Musikalische Komödie Leipzig, succeeded in presenting the acclaimed musical on a German stage for the first time in 2015. The Eisenach Ballet Ensemble can be seen on stage in Meiningen and Eisenach.

Neben Erfolgsmusicals wie „Jekyll & Hyde“ und „Bonnie & Clyde“ adaptierte der US-amerikanische Komponist Frank Wildhorn eine weitere populäre literarische Vorlage. Alexandre Dumas „Der Graf von Monte Christo“ gilt als der Abenteuerroman schlechthin und vereint ein realistisches Geschichtsbild der postnapoleonischen Zeit Frankreichs mit dem schaurigen Leidensweg seines Protagonisten. Der junge Edmond Dantes, gerade zum Kapitän befördert, wird während seiner Verlobungsfeier mit der schönen Mercedes Opfer eines perfiden Komplotts. Unschuldig eingekerkert, treiben ihn 14 Jahre Arrest an den Rand des Wahnsinns. Der ebenfalls inhaftierte Abbe Faria verrat ihm die Lage eines Schatzes auf der kleinen Mittelmeerinsel Monte Christo. Nur Dantes gelingt die Flucht, er findet die Beute und verschafft sich mit diesem Reichtum als Graf von Monte Christo Eintritt in die höchsten Pariser Kreise. Seine einstigen Widersacher*innen sind dank ihrer Skrupellosigkeit weit aufgestiegen. Umso tiefer ihr Fall, als Dantes Rache nimmt.

Nach der Uraufführung 2009 in St. Gallen gelang es Cusch Jung, Chefregisseur der Musikalischen Komödie Leipzig, das umjubelte Musical 2015 erstmals auf einer deutschen Bühne zu präsentieren. Das Eisenacher Ballettensemble ist in Meiningen und Eisenach auf der Bühne zu erleben.
