Imre Kálmán's operetta The Csárdáskirályő is rightly called the most popular and most performed operetta of all time.

According to the operetta statisticians, there is not a single minute in some part of the Earth - in a theater, concert, film, TV or radio - where one of Imre Kálmán's popular melodies is not played... most of the time one of the hits of Csárdásrályňo.

It was played for 533 evenings in Vienna, where it premiered in 1915, and then the work swept across Europe: despite World War I, it was immediately presented in Sweden, Finland, Poland, Russia, Italy, and then in Budapest in November 1916, and finally reached the New Also to Broadway in York.

It is considered a rare exception that it would be a great play even without music, as a very exciting family drama unfolds in front of the viewer during the events. Of course, in the end, as required by the laws of operettas, everything turns out for the best.

Added to this are the truly eternally popular melodies, about which critics of the time wrote: "Kálmán was able to combine the Viennese waltz and captivating, temperamental Hungarian music in The Queen of Csárdás. Great tracks not only ensure popularity, but also provide a real musical experience"...

Everyone knows the greatest hits of the operetta: "The girls, the girls, the girls are angels...", "Oh, kitty, I'm eating that little mouth of yours...", "Dream, dream, sweet dream...", "Do you still remember?", "You ragged life...", "The woman is crushed...", "Just drag it until the light of day..." and of course "Péter Hajmási, Pál Hajmási"

They say, and rightly so, that operetta is a traditionally Hungarian genre. They say, and rightly so, that nowhere in the world are operettas performed as excitingly, temperamentally, playfully, full of humor and lyricism as here. This makes it difficult to put it on stage. A theater that decides to present an operetta must meet a lot of expectations. This is especially true in the case of the Queen of Czardás.

Az operett-statisztikusok szerint nincs egyetlen perc, amikor a Föld valamelyik pontján – színházban, koncerten, filmen, tévében vagy rádióban – föl ne csendülne Kálmán Imre valamelyik népszerű melódiája… legtöbbször a Csárdáskirálynő egyik slágere.

Bécsben, az 1915-ös premier helyszínén 533 estén át játszották, majd végigsöpört a mű Európán: az I. világháború ellenére azonnal bemutatták Svédországban, Finnországban, Lengyelországban, Oroszországban, Olaszországban, majd Budapesten 1916. novemberében, s végül eljutott egy esztendővel később a New York-i Broadway-re is.

Ritka kivételként tartják róla, hogy akár zene nélkül is remek színdarab lenne, ugyanis egy nagyon izgalmas családi dráma bomlik ki az események során a néző előtt. Természetesen a végén, mint ahogy azt az operettek törvényei követelik, minden jóra fordul.

Ehhez jönnek még a valóban örökké népszerű melódiák, melyről a korabeli kritikusok így írtak: “Kálmán a Csárdáskirálynőben ötvözni tudta a bécsi keringőt és a magával ragadó, temperamentumos magyar zenét. A remek számok nemcsak a népszerűséget biztosítják, de igazi zenei élményt is nyújtanak”…

Az operett legnagyobb slágereit mindenki ismeri: „A lányok, a lányok, a lányok angyalok…”, „Jaj, cica, eszem azt a csöpp kis szád…”, „Álom, álom, édes álom…”, „Emlékszel még?”, „Te rongyos élet…”, „Az asszony összetör…”, „Húzzad csak kivilágos virradatig…” és természetesen „Hajmási Péter, Hajmási Pál”

Mondják, és joggal, az operett tradicionálisan magyar műfaj. Mondják, és azt is joggal, hogy sehol a világon nem adják elő olyan izgalmasan, temperamentumosan, játékosan, humorral és lírával telten az operetteket, mint nálunk. Ettől nehéz is a színpadra állítása. Rengeteg elvárásnak kell megfelelnie annak a színháznak, amelyik operett bemutatása mellett dönt. Különösen igaz ez a Csárdáskirálynő esetében.
