After the corona-related digitization at the Mannheim Summer 2020, it is finally on the stage of the opera house: legendary director Luk Perceval and the author Asli Erdoğan give Mozart's popular Singspiel a philosophical dimension beyond oriental clichés and without humorous scenes. Perceval and Erdoğan transfer the story of the nobleman Belmonte, who is looking for his wife Konstanze, into a world in which the contrasts between the Orient and the Occident have long been resolved. In this fast-paced, globalized world, the main characters are all alone amidst a busy crowd leading absurd lives. None of them can find a way out of this »inner seraglio«. Sensitive, with captivatingly beautiful pictures, new dialogues and interspersed texts, Perceval and Erdoğan trace the contrast between stillness and activity in the brutal throng of the world. A real work of art inspired by Mozart's utopian music.
