Lyrical comedy by Giuseppe Verdi In Italian with German and English surtitles / with English surtitles Ritter Falstaff is a real connoisseur and notorious for his easy-going debauchery. Even in old age he doesn’t let women burn, he is not averse to alcohol and he confidently carries his large stomach - the result of his culinary passions - in front of him. Verdi, who is in comic top form in his late work, and his librettist Arrigo Boito do not make fun of the title character, but depict the human and social depths and shallows in a differentiated manner. They tell a story about the art of aging with humorous sympathy. Verdi surrounds Falstaff with a multitude of wonderfully drawn figures, which the singers of the Karlsruhe opera ensemble will breathe life into. Director Jacopo Spirei, who has previously worked in Salzburg, Copenhagen, Bologna and Vienna, is working in Karlsruhe for the first time. The stage design is designed by Nikolaus Webern, who won the “ring award off” in Graz in 2011.
