Programma

1

The poor but cheerful and deeply believing milkman Tevje lives with his wife Golde and his five daughters in the Ukrainian village of Anatevka in 1905, a cheerful "shtetl" in which tradition seems to stand above all else. But the idyll is deceptive: the eve of the Russian Revolution is dawning... you could easily crash, says Tevje, like a "fiddler on the roof". Behind the cheerfulness of the plot and the lightness of the famous melodies hides a serious and moving story that has (unfortunately) not lost its topicality to this day. The FLTB plays the piece in an elaborate classical production with a total of about 70 participants in the German version with a large orchestra. Rudolf Maier-Kleeblatt will take over the artistic and musical direction. The Musical Anatevka has three authors. Josef Stein wrote the libretto, Sheldon Harnick wrote the rhyming lyrics, and Jerry Bock composed the music. The premiere took place in 1964 at the Imperial Theatre in New York. The original English title "Fiddler on the Roof" refers to a painting completed in 1913 by the French painter Marc Chagall entitled "The Violinist", which bears witness to Chagall's Polish-Jewish origins. The violinist played in Chagall's hometown of Vitebsk at the nodes of life (birth, marriage, death). For Chagall, he was the embodiment of the artist, his existence and way of life. The violinist is one of the motifs that accompanied Chagall's entire oeuvre. The figure of the Parisian "violinist" is depicted considerably larger than the houses and the church that surround him like a wreath; and his face is green, like that of the violinist in the mural »Music«, which Marc Chagall painted in 1920.
