Heute ist es kaum vorstellbar, dass vor 200 Jahren eine Frau als Komponistin in der Öffentlichkeit unerwünscht war. Fanny Hensel wurde von ihrem Bruder Felix, ihrem Vater und ihrem Ehemann mehrfach darauf hingewiesen – ihre Ouvertüre wurde gar unter dem Namen ihres Bruders veröffentlicht.

Louise Farrenc war die erste Frau, die von ihrem Mann als Komponistin unterstützt wurde. 1842 ernannte man sie zur ersten Professorin für Klavier am Pariser Konservatorium. Ihre 3. Sinfonie, die kurze Zeit später entstand, ist ein grosser Wurf. Sie wurde erst vor wenigen Jahren wiederentdeckt und erobert sich von Jahr zu Jahr einen festeren Platz im Konzertrepertoire.

Louise Farrenc was the first woman to be supported as a composer by her husband. In 1842 she was appointed the first female professor of piano at the Paris Conservatory. Her 3rd Symphony, which was written a short time later, is a great achievement. It was only rediscovered a few years ago and is gaining a stronger place in the concert repertoire from year to year.
