No piece of music leaves the listener with so many more questions than answers than this opera by the Hungarian genius: Béla Bartók. Duke Bluebeard's Burcht is a special piece of music. Unlike other operas, the plot is not an ordinary love story; you don't see dramatic romance on stage. Instead, Bartók gave us this musical thriller.

The story has its origins in a French fairy tale of the same name by Charles Perrault. In the 20th century, the classic story was interpreted in a new way. Under the influence of symbolism, subconsciousness and the rise of psychology, a new mysterious and dark meaning came to light. The basis for Bartok's opera came from the pen of the Hungarian librettist and poet Béla Balázs, a close friend of the composer.

Geen enkel muziekstuk laat de luisteraar achter met zoveel meer vragen dan antwoorden dan deze opera van de Hongaarse genie: Béla Bartók. Hertog Blauwbaards Burcht is een bijzonder muziekstuk. In tegenstelling tot andere opera's is het plot geen gewoon liefdesverhaal; je ziet geen dramatische romantiek op het podium. In plaats daarvan gaf Bartók ons deze muzikale thriller.

Het verhaal vindt zijn oorsprong in een gelijknamig Frans sprookje van Charles Perrault. In de 20e eeuw werd het klassieke verhaal op nieuwe wijze geïnterpreteerd. Onder invloed van symboliek, onderbewustzijn en de opkomst van de psychologie kwam een nieuwe mysterieuze en duistere betekenis aan het licht. De basis voor Bartoks opera kwam uit de pen van de Hongaarse librettist en dichter Béla Balázs, een goede vriend van de componist.
