“Who would want to be a millionaire?” ask gossip reporter Mike and photographer Liz, who wormed their way into a high-cluster wedding in Oyster Bay, Long Island. The bride who's married for the second time here is Tracy Samantha Lord - and she doesn't welcome all the guests who show up to the party on the eve of her marriage to solid but boring up-and-comer George. Because Tracy expects the same high moral standards that she has set for herself from others: she banished her own father from the family because of his extramarital affair with a dancer. And she promptly divorced her whiskey-loving first husband, CK Dexter Haven. Now, however, Dexter is back, much to the annoyance of Tracy and the amusement of her smart-ass younger sister Dinah. Because the rogue is up to something, isn't he? In any case, with the help of lots of champagne - and a swimming pool - the night before the wedding is very turbulent. Will Tracy fall off her high horse, make it down the aisle, and if so, with whom? High, high, high, high, high society! Philip Barry, master of polished dialogue and salon comedy, wrote one of his greatest hits for the 1938/39 Broadway season. "The Night Before the Wedding" (originally: "The Philadelphia Story") took critical New York audiences by storm, saved the career of Hollywood-branded Katharine Hepburn (Tracy) and became the following year with her, Cary Grant and James Stewart brought to the cinema screen. With clever instinct, Katharine Hepburn had previously had the film rights signed over to her. A comedy classic was born. The huge success continued when the MGM studio filmed the play again in 1956 under the title "High Society", starring Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra - and with songs by the legendary show composer Cole Porter. In 1998, things came full circle: the musical version by Porter and Arthur Kopit brought the story of the "upper ten thousand" sparkling with wit and elegance back to Broadway. The score is packed with additional Cole Porter standards such as "Just One of Those Things", "I Love Paris" or "Let's Misbehave".
