Now they are again on stage for our new production “Il turco in Italia” and play the lovers Fiorilla and Selim. Il turco in Italia
Kommt ein Türke nach Italien, verdrehen die verheirateten Frauen vor Verzückung die Augen, die Liebhaber-Konkurrenten haben das Nachsehen und die Ehemänner rasen vor Eifersucht. Alberne Klischees sind das. Aber um die geht es in diesem Dramma buffo per musica. Mit ihnen spielt der Komponist Gioachino Rossini, und zwar ganz bewusst: Er weiss, dass er mit dem fremdländischen Frauenverführer Selim, der an den heimischen Herd geketteten, aber unternehmungslustigen jungen Frau Fiorilla und dem lächerlichen, weil viel zu alten Ehemann Geronio Archetypen der italienischen Komödie auf die Bühne stellt und hat seinen Spass an der parodistischen Übertreibung. Man kann es daran erkennen, dass er einen Dichter in die Handlung eingeführt hat, der auf der Suche nach einem Theaterstoff ist und über alle Szenen hinweg immer wieder ironisch die gelungenen und danebengehenden Pointen dieser simplen, aber am Ende doch raffiniert gestrickten Komödie kommentiert. Im Jahr 1813 wurde Il turco in Italia in Mailand uraufgeführt. Aber am Klischeedenken in der Begegnung mit fremden Kulturen hat sich bis heute gar nicht so viel geändert: Kommt ein Türke nach Italien oder ein Ausländer in die Schweiz, sind Vorurteile, Gemeinplätze und Missverständnisse nach wie vor nicht weit. Rasante Musik und halsbrecherisch virtuose Arien garantieren Buffa-Spass. Aber der funktioniert natürlich nur, wenn er von temperamentsprühenden MusikerInnen und SängersolistInnen entfacht wird. In unserer Wiederaufnahme singt die in Zürich aus vielen Verdi- und Rossini-Vorstellungen bekannte Rosa Feola die Partie der Fiorilla, Kyle Ketelsen gibt den unwiderstehlichen Türken Selim. Der italienische Dirigent Antonino Fogliani, der in der vergangenen Spielzeit Rossinis Il barbiere di Siviglia mit dem Internationalen Opernstudio einstudiert hat, leitet die Philharmonia Zürich.

When a Turk comes to Italy, the married women roll their eyes in ecstasy, the rival lovers lose out and the husbands rage with jealousy. They're silly clichés. But that's what this dramma buffo per musica is about. The composer Gioachino Rossini plays with them, and quite consciously: he knows that he is dealing with the foreign woman seducer Selim, the enterprising young woman Fiorilla who is chained to the stove at home and the ridiculous, because far too old husband Geronio archetypes of Italian comedy on stage and enjoys the parodic exaggeration. You can tell by the fact that he introduced a poet to the plot, who is looking for a theatrical subject and repeatedly ironically comments on the successful and misguided punch lines of this simple but in the end cleverly knitted comedy throughout all scenes. In 1813 wasIl turco in Italia premiered in Milan. But not much has changed in terms of clichés when encountering foreign cultures: if a Turk comes to Italy or a foreigner to Switzerland, prejudices, commonplaces and misunderstandings are still not far away. Fast-paced music and breakneck virtuoso arias guarantee buffa fun. But of course it only works if it is kindled by spirited musicians and solo singers. In our revival, Rosa Feola, known in Zurich from many Verdi and Rossini performances, sings the part of Fiorilla, Kyle Ketelsen is the irresistible Turk Selim. Italian conductor Antonino Fogliani, who last season performed Rossini's Il barbiere di Sivigliawith the International Opera Studio, conducts the Zurich Philharmonia.
