“Jolanthe” in Baden-Baden is a must: This opera is like a Fabergé egg, enchanting, priceless, conservative contradiction to the economy of the practical. Tchaikovsky's fairy tales anticipate symbolism and art nouveau. The composer's Russia also left traces in Baden-Baden, just think of the local Orthodox Church.
