After the successful production JUDAS by Lot Vekemans last season, we are spanning a dramaturgical arc with the rock opera: JESUS ​​CHRIST SUPERSTAR - from the point of view of the traitor Judas - tells the story of Jesus, his last journey and his love for Maria Magdalena.
The then unknown Andrew Lloyd Webber and his librettist Tim Rice condensed the events of the last seven days of Christ into an intense, highly emotional and at the same time deeply human musical drama. The premiere in 1971 in New York was accompanied by protests about blasphemy, but quickly developed into a worldwide success.

What does the piece still have to say to us today – almost 50 years later to the day? What are the great questions of history and our tradition that we must face?

The musical director Stephan Kanyar created a musical version for the Brandenburger Symphoniker, which is nowhere to be heard in this form.
The artistic director of the BT, Frank Martin Widmaier, came up with a concept for this production, which tells this rock opera in a world of images as a parable of being human and put together a star cast for Brandenburg.
