The Mass in B minor is Bach's last major vocal work, which took 25 years to complete and was completed in 1749, a year before his death. A special fascination has always emanated from the trade fair – according to Carl Friedrich Zelter in 1811, it was “the greatest work of art the world has ever seen”. Bach's Mass in B minor is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding compositions in music history. In his setting of the text of the mass, Bach combines styles and compositional techniques from the past and present into a breathtaking masterpiece. The chamber choir hamburgVOKAL was founded in 2010 by its director Matthias Mensching and has quickly become one of the leading choirs in northern Germany. The young ensemble is dedicated to a broad spectrum of choral literature from early music to contemporary works. The choir has won several awards at competitions. The ensemble regularly follows invitations to festivals and concert series, such as the »Hour of Church Music« at the Collegiate Church in Stuttgart, the Niedersächsische Musiktage or chor.com. The ensemble has also given concerts in the Elbphilharmonie and the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. A radio production with contemporary choral music was created for the NDR.
