His Katja is "of such a gentle disposition that a light breeze would blow her away, let alone the storm and thunderstorm that breaks over her," Leoš Janáček remarked in a letter to his lover Kamila Stösslová and confessedly added his story is “full of music from the depths of the heart”. Because: "It was your image that I saw in Katja Kabanova when I was composing the opera". Director Tatjana Gürbaca, who is now returning to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein after her successes with Strauss' “Salome” and “Arabella”, will take care of the dramatic events.

Seine Katja sei „von so sanftem Gemüt, dass eine leichte Brise sie schon davonwehen würde, geschweige denn der Sturm und das Gewitter, das über sie hereinbricht“, bemerkt Leoš Janáček in einem Brief an seine Geliebte Kamila Stösslová und fügt bekennend hinzu, seine Erzählung sei „voll Musik aus der Tiefe des Herzens“. Denn: „Es war Dein Bild, das ich in Katja Kabanova sah, als ich die Oper komponierte“. Der dramatischen Geschehnisse nimmt sich Regisseurin Tatjana Gürbaca an, die nach ihren Erfolgen mit Strauss’ „Salome“ und „Arabella“ nun an die Deutsche Oper am Rhein zurückkehrt.
