When Rodolfo, a penniless poet, meets Mimì, a seamstress, they instantly fall in love. However, their happiness is threatened when Rodolfo learns that Mimì is seriously ill. Rodolfo painfully realizes that he cannot provide Mimì with the care she needs, so he separates from her. When the disease is in full swing, Mimì returns to Rodolfo's attic. They are happily reunited – but despite the care of Rodolfo and his friends, Mimì dies.
 
Director Peter Konwitschny tells an engaging story about four young poor artists without sentimentality, simply and convincingly. Puccini's veristic interpretation mixes funny scenes with tragic ones as a faithful picture of everyday life; the director's point of view is penetrating and full of understanding. In the hands of Petr Konwitschný, Bohéme does not lose any of its beauty - and at the same time gains in dramatic truth and power.

Keď Rodolfo, nemajetný básnik, stretne krajčírku Mimì, okamžite sa do seba zamilujú. Ich šťastie je však ohrozené, keď sa Rodolfo dozvie, že Mimì je vážne chorá. Rodolfo si bolestne uvedomuje, že nedokáže Mimì poskytnúť starostlivosť, ktorú potrebuje, a tak sa od nej odlúči. Keď choroba naplno prepukne, Mimì sa vráti do Rodolfovho podkrovia. Radostne sa opäť stretnú – ale napriek starostlivosti Rodolfa a jeho priateľov Mimì zomiera.
 
Pútavý príbeh o štvorici mladých chudobných umelcov rozpráva režisér Peter Konwitschny bez sentimentality, prosto a presvedčivo. Pucciniho veristický výklad mieša úsmevné scény s tragickými ako verný obraz všedného života; pohľad režiséra je prenikavý i plný porozumenia. V rukách Petra Konwitschného nestráca Bohéma nič zo svojej krásy – a zároveň získava na dramatickej pravdivosti a sile.

Als Rodolfo, ein armer Dichter, die Näherin Mimì trifft, ist es Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Ihr Glück ist jedoch gefährdet als Rodolfo erfährt, dass Mimì schwer krank ist. Rodolfo wird schmerzhaft bewusst, dass er Mimì nicht die Fürsorge bieten kann, die sie braucht, deshalb trennt er sich von ihr. Als die Krankheit voll ausbricht, kehrt Mimì in Rodolfos Mansarde zurück. Es folgt ein freudiges Wiedersehen – jedoch, trotz der Fürsorge Rodolfos und seiner Freunde stirbt Mimì.
 
Die spannende Geschichte, die von vier jungen armen Künstlern handelt, wird vom Regisseur Peter Konwitschny ohne Sentimentalität, einfach und überzeugend wiedergegeben. Puccinis veristische Auslegung mischt heitere Szenen mit den tragischen als treues Abbild des Alltags; die Sichtweise des Regisseurs ist tiefgründig und zugleich voller Verständnis. In den Händen von Peter Konwitschny verliert La Bohème nichts von ihrer Schönheit – sie gewinnt zugleich an dramatischer Glaubwürdigkeit und Kraft.
