The story of the Parisian courtesan Violetta Valéry has been moving viewers for one hundred and sixty years. It is not without interest that the world premiere of this work in 1853 was a fiasco, primarily because Verdi was known until then primarily as an author of operas with historical themes. In the case of La Traviata , he presented the audience with a modern theme – the story of a contemporary tragic woman, a courtesan in addition, which evokes great regret. Today, this work belongs to the repertoire of almost all opera houses in the world.

Příběh pařížské kurtizány Violetty Valéry dojímá diváky již sto šedesát let. Není bez zajímavosti, že světová premiéra tohoto díla v roce 1853 byla fiaskem, a to především proto, že Verdi byl do té doby známý především jako autor oper s historickými náměty. V případě La traviaty před diváky předstoupil s moderním tématem – příběhem současné tragické ženy, navíc kurtizány, který vzbuzuje velkou lítost. Dnes toto dílo patří k repertoárovým stálicím snad všech světových operních domů.
