LA FOUGUE DE LA JEUNESSE
BIZET YEAR 2025

A man of the theater, Bizet knew how to provoke laughter as much as tears. As proof, this show which allows you to discover the entirety of the incidental music of L'Arlésienne and the amusing one-act operetta Le Docteur Miracle . L'Arlésienne was first a short story by Alphonse Daudet. It was inspired by the suicide of the nephew of the Provençal poet Frédéric Mistral, who was in despair over his passion for a young woman. Daudet himself adapted the short story for the stage: it became a drama in 4 acts, and was enriched by musical punctuations by Bizet. Hervé Lacombe now offers a text for narrator that tells L'Arlésienne in a more concise manner, but allows the entire score for choir and orchestra to be heard. Le Docteur Miracle is the result of a competition that Bizet won. This farce reveals his comic talent, the melodies combine elegance with freshness, the ensembles dazzle with their dramatic verve, particularly in the comical "Quatuor de l'omelette".
