“Oh Mozart, immortal Mozart!” Schubert wrote in a rare entry in his diary. We know that Schubert saw and fell in love with Die Zauberflöte , and that Mozart's music faithfully accompanied him throughout his life. In his Lieder we hear Mozartian echoes, or even quotes, over and over again, a presence that is rarely commented on. As the culmination of the cycle dedicated to the influences of Schubert, this program selects songs and excerpts from opera that demonstrate the existence of an evident musical and spiritual bond between the two composers, including some delicious and revealing surprises.
