No sooner has Jason stolen the Golden Fleece with Medea's help than he casts her out in favor of marrying King Creon's daughter Dircé. Medea cannot and does not want to put up with being slandered and abandoned by Jason, to whom she once sacrificed her fatherland and family out of love and to whom she gave birth to two children. Determined to subject her husband to the most gruesome punishment imaginable, the injured woman becomes a hateful, avenging angel bringing death and destruction. She kills her husband's new bride and kills her own children with shocking brutality. This tragedy about a woman and mother between destructive love and murderous hate leaves no one indifferent, sparking sympathy, horror, sadness and disgust!
With "Medea" Luigi Cherubini created a masterpiece in 1797 that goes far beyond the operas of his contemporaries. The monumental and imposing opera with large choral scenes, outstanding soloists and the infinite power of emotions can be experienced for the first time at the Theater Hof.

The Theater Hof will open the renovated Great House with this production.
