The pronounced, almost vulgar dialect of the flower girl Eliza Doolittle strikes the eccentric phonetics professor Henry Higgins immediately. Convinced that language can change a person for the better, Higgins makes a bet with his friend Colonel Pickering: In just six weeks he wants to turn the street brat Eliza into a real lady who can assert herself in London's high society . Eliza gets involved in the experiment, and the tough language training soon shows results. But while the young woman is emancipating herself more and more from Higgins, Higgins does not seem to be able to get away from her ...

George Bernard Shaw's comedy "Pygmalion", in which a sculptor falls in love with his own sculpture, served as the inspiration for one of the most popular musicals of all time. After composers like Leonard Bernstein or Cole Porter failed to adapt the ironic society comedy for music theater, the native German-Austrian Frederick Loewe finally landed a direct hit in 1956 with "My Fair Lady": the musical ran longer with 2,171 performances than any musical play on Broadway before. It is thanks to Loewe's instinct for snappy Broadway numbers that melodies like "It's so green when Spain's blossoms are in bloom" or "I would have danced tonight" have long since become evergreens. The legendary film adaptation with Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison also contributed to the worldwide success. Acting director now slipping in Magdeburg Tim Kramer is into the role of Henry Higgins , who is delighted about Elizas and his educational success: "My God, now she's got it!"
