Bei Gustav Mahlers tosenden, weltbewegten Sinfonien wird es meist ziemlich voll auf dem Podium: Ein 100-köpfiges Orchester ist da der Regelfall. Aber – es geht auch anders. Das bewies schon Arnold Schönberg, als er 1918 den Verein für musikalische Privataufführungen gründete und dort grossbesetzte Werke in Arrangements für Kammerorchester vorstellte. Diesem Beispiel folgt der deutsche Komponist Klaus Simon, der etliche Mahler-Sinfonien für Ensemble bearbeitet hat. Dabei legt er das Innenleben von Mahlers Musik frei und lässt die kunstvolle Polyphonie in schönster Transparenz hörbar werden. Das MythenEnsembleOrchestral, das sich aus Schweizer und internationalen Solist*innen zusammensetzt, wird unter der Leitung der Fin-de-Siècle-Expertin Graziella Contratto Mahlers Fünfte Sinfonie in dieser Fassung aufführen. Zuvor aber eröffnet «artiste étoile» Golda Schultz ihre Residenz beim Sommer-Festival: Ausgewählt hat sie für ihr Entrée vier berührende Mahler-Lieder, die vom irdischen Jammertal und der Sehnsucht nach einer besseren Welt erzählen.

DESCRIPTION
With Gustav Mahler's roaring, world-moving symphonies, it usually gets quite crowded on the podium: A 100-strong orchestra is the norm. But - there is another way. Arnold Schönberg already proved this when he founded the association for private musical performances in 1918 and presented large-scale works in arrangements for chamber orchestra there. The German composer Klaus Simon, who arranged a number of Mahler symphonies for ensemble, follows this example. In doing so, he reveals the inner workings of Mahler's music and lets the artful polyphony be heard in the most beautiful transparency. The MythenEnsembleOrchestral, made up of Swiss and international soloists, will perform Mahler's Fifth Symphony in this version under the direction of fin-de-siècle expert Graziella Contratto. Before that, however, "artiste étoile" Golda Schultz will open her residency at the summer festival: she has chosen four touching Mahler songs for her entrée, which tell of the earthly vale of tears and the longing for a better world.
