One of the really great stories that we have been telling ourselves since time immemorial; interpreted countless times, reinterpreted and understood, translated into movement and music - and now realized by Olaf Schmidt as a mixture of opera and dance theater. Is it about the power of music? Is it about the power of love that overcomes everything? Is it about trust? Is it about fear of loss?
Orpheus the singer loves Eurydice. But the gods take his beloved, a snake bite and she is on her way to the realm of the dead. But Orpheus does not want to accept the unchangeable. He goes in search of Eurydice, demands to be admitted to the realm of the dead and asks to be allowed to take Eurydice back with him. The magic of his song beguiles everyone, and Eurydice is allowed to accompany him on one condition: Orpheus must not turn to face his beloved on the way back to earth. As simple as this condition may sound, Orpheus does not succeed. Will he lose Eurydice forever this time?
After CARMINA BURANA and SLEEPING BRUDER, the opera and ballet ensemble of the theater are working together for the third time. Music theater can hardly be more sensual, more visually powerful and more complex.
