Who can say whether famous German actress Iris Berben still carries ›Zarathustra‹ in her purse—but when she was younger, she devoured it »in rapture«. What is certain is that the avowed Engadin lover has often been in St. Moritz, and probably also in nearby Sils Maria—the mountain village »6,000 feet beyond man and time« where Nietzsche received the inspiration to his ›Zarathustra‹. The philosophical writings inspired Richard Strauss to compose his symphonic poem with what are probably the three most famous trumpet notes in the world—everyone knows them, at the latest since Kubrick’s cult film ›2001—A Space Odyssey‹.
