The head of His Majesty King Pomádé. She would celebrate her name day the next day, but she doesn't have a single dress that she hasn't worn at least once. In the absence of a new dress, it seems that the celebration will be cancelled. But then, miraculously, two foreign weavers appear before the king. They promise that the next day they will weave the miracle cloth from their miracle yarn, and from that they will make the festive miracle dress. However, this outfit has one very important feature: only true, smart and honest people can see it. Anyone who is stupid, liar or evil sees nothing but air.

"To whom God has given office, God also gives reason," sings King Pomádé confidently. But does this wise idea remain valid even at the end of the play? Who can see the truth-seeing fabric and who can't?
 

György Ránki flashes his versatility within the framework of a single work. It starts from the world of Hungarian folk songs, yet the most exciting parts of the opera are those where the jazzy sound world of comedy, caricature and irony is heard.

Pomádé király őfelségének fő a feje. Másnap a névnapját ünnepelné, ám egyetlen olyan ruhája sincsen, amit ne viselt volna már legalább egyszer. Új ruha híján, úgy tűnik, elmarad az ünnepség. Ám ekkor csodával határos módon két idegenből érkezett takács járul a király színe elé. Megígérik, hogy másnapra csodafonalukból megszövik a csodakelmét, abból pedig kiszabják az ünnepi csodaöltözetet. Ennek az öltözéknek azonban van egy igen lényeges tulajdonsága: csak az igaz, okos és becsületes emberek látják. Aki buta, hazug vagy gonosz, nem lát mást csak levegőt.

„Akinek hivatalt adott, annak észt is ád az Isten” – énekli magabiztosan Pomádé király. Ám vajon érvényes marad-e eme bölcs gondolat a darab végén is? Vajon ki az, aki látja az igazlátó szövetet, és ki az, aki nem?
 

Ránki György egyetlen mű keretein belül villantja fel sokoldalúságát. A magyar népdal világából indul, mégis az operának azok a legizgalmasabb részei, ahol a komédia, a karikatúra és az irónia jazzes hangzásvilága szólal meg.
