Rigoletto has been in the repertoire of the Ural Opera since the first season, only from time to time changing the stage attire. Alexei Frandetti, director, actor, author and translator of the libretto, two-time winner of the Golden Mask award, made his debut in our theater with a new production of Verdi's opera. Frandetti gained recognition as a director of musicals, and the audience in Yekaterinburg knows him from several works at the Musical Comedy Theatre.

“Our version of Rigoletto is a psychological thriller, a homage to Alfred Hitchcock, both in terms of how I see the Verdi story from the inside and work with artists on roles, and in terms of the visual component. It is important for us to talk about the nature of "falling in love "  - ​​about those catastrophes in human relations, to which excessive love and guardianship lead. For me, the theme of Rigoletto's love for his daughter is the main theme in the opera.

The premiere of the performance was the inauguration of the new chief conductor of the theatre, Konstantin Chudovsky. To work on the performance, he invited the Italian vocal teacher Massimiliano Bullo, who had served at La Scala in Milan for forty years: “Maestro Bullo, who grew up next to the great Riccardo Muti, became our guide to Italian music, about which we in Russia have a very superficial idea . Together we have already staged eight Italian operas, sorting each score into bars: I can say that I have absorbed the experience of the old masters of La Scala, and now the teacher has transferred his incredible skill to Yekaterinburg singers.”

«Риголетто» остается в репертуаре Урал Оперы с первого сезона, лишь время от времени меняя сценический наряд. Новой постановкой оперы Верди в нашем театре дебютировал Алексей Франдетти — режиссер, актер, автор и переводчик либретто, двукратный обладатель премии «Золотая маска». Франдетти обрел признание как режиссер мюзиклов, и екатеринбургский зритель знает его по нескольким работам в Театре музыкальной комедии.

«Наша версия «Риголетто» — психологический триллер, оммаж Альфреду Хичкоку — и по тому, как я вижу вердиевскую историю изнутри и работаю с артистами над ролями, и по визуальной составляющей. Нам важно поговорить о природе «залюбленности» — о тех катастрофах в человеческих отношениях, к которым ведут чрезмерные любовь и опека. Для меня тема любви Риголетто к своей дочери является в опере главной».

Премьера спектакля стала инаугурацией нового главного дирижера театра — Константина Чудовского. Для работы над спектаклем он пригласил итальянского вокального педагога Массимилиано Булло, в течение сорока лет служившего в миланском Ла Скала: «Маэстро Булло, выросший рядом с великим Риккардо Мути, стал нашим проводником в итальянскую музыку, — о которой мы в России имеем весьма поверхностное представление. Вместе мы уже поставили восемь итальянских опер, разбирая каждую партитуру по тактам: могу сказать, что впитал опыт старых мастеров Ла Скала, и теперь свое невероятное мастерство педагог передал екатеринбургским певцам».
